IN-S63BTA: coloured-lens pass (2026-09-30)

Published on the wiki. Each later pass has its own section below; where they differ, the later section wins.

Files

Changed:

  • IN-S63BTA.glb
  • IN-S63BTA.insertion.glb
  • IN-S63BTA.step
  • README.md
  • page.json
  • screenshots/hero.png

Added:

  • IN-S63BTA-uncoloured.step
  • in-s63bta-hero.glb
  • provenance/ (provenance JSON, colour report, hero pin map, the scripts used)

IN-S63BTA-uncoloured.step is the STEP the page shipped before this pass, byte for byte (renamed only). IN-S63BTA.step is now the coloured model, so anything that fetches the page STEP by its usual name gets colour by default.

Colour

  • Datasheet: IN-S63BT series (2022-03-10) p.3 Electrical Characteristics, lambda_D typ: dominant wavelength (typical) 605 nm.
  • Lens colour: sRGB #E79F62 (0.9044, 0.6233, 0.3857), OKLCh L 0.76 C 0.1151 h 60.0 deg.
  • Why: amber: display hue 60 deg, midway between red (29.2) and on-screen yellow (~90) (lambda_d-exact hue for 605 nm is 33.5 deg, reads red); see docstring.
  • Method (all LEDs): hue from the datasheet dominant wavelength, chroma 65 % of the most saturated sRGB colour at that hue, lightness chosen so the lens reads as tinted epoxy rather than paint (John, 2026-09-30: less saturated, match the nm). Details in provenance/tools/led_colour.py.

What was coloured

STEP family kicad-chip, 50 faces: lens 5, substrate 7, terminal 34, cathode_mark 4; 5 faces recoloured (XCAF ColorSurf and ColorGen). The KiCad chip-LED model is one solid. The 5 ivory faces above the substrate top (z >= 0.47 mm) are the moulded lens block and now carry the lens colour; the substrate (ivory), gold terminals and the green underside cathode mark keep their library colours. Geometry, face count, volume, centroid and the product name are unchanged (checked with verify_geom.py); the KiCad licence comment block is carried into the new file header.

GLBs

File Triangles before after Bytes before after
IN-S63BTA.glb 4134 1233 357612 89948
IN-S63BTA.insertion.glb 4414 1513 381308 56104
in-s63bta-hero.glb (new) 415 34348

The composites are the page's own LED scenes (board, pads, silk, solder fillets, LED, glow skin, FOV cone, point light); .insertion.glb is the one the README viewer loads and animates as the pick-and-place insertion. Only the LED mesh and its four materials were replaced, with geometry from step2glb convert of the coloured STEP (same frame and units: metres, Z-up, seated on z = 0) and the node's existing Z scale kept so the rendered height stays at the datasheet package height. The triangle drop is the LED alone: the old LED mesh was a finer tessellation of the same KiCad solid; step2glb tessellates the planar faces with fewer triangles. The lens material is now roughness 0.35 with a clear coat.

Hero

  • in-s63bta-hero.glb: built like john/eee-fk1v470p's hero: the coloured LED (Z scale 0.5454545) plus nonphysical footprint reference art from the page's current IN-S63BTA.kicad_mod (Colby's cathode bracket): teal dashed pad outlines 50 %, silkscreen 30 %, K / A pad labels 50 %, each a declared viewer layer. No laser etch. page.json component.parts.model_3d now points at it (the composite IN-S63BTA.glb stays as model_3d_plain).
  • screenshots/hero.png: Ray layout from the shared basic-part hero template (COMPONENT kicker, page title, MPN, brief, manufacturer and package, ADOM BASIC PART pill), the coloured LED rendered iso on the right, no footprint art. Old hero kept at ../before/in-s63bta/before-hero.png.

page.json and README

  • page.json component.parts: step / model_3d_step = IN-S63BTA.step (coloured, default), model_3d_step_plain = IN-S63BTA-uncoloured.step (optional), model_3d = in-s63bta-hero.glb, model_3d_plain = IN-S63BTA.glb, plus viewer_3d.tooltips: authored.
  • README.md Downloads table: the STEP row now says coloured/default, plus a row for the optional uncoloured STEP and one for the hero GLB.
  • Not changed: README.html (generated; it has no STEP link, and its inline viewer loads IN-S63BTA.insertion.glb, which was rebuilt under the same name), IN-S63BTA.html (its "3D Model (.step)" button points at a legacy static host by the unchanged file name), .kicad_mod, .kicad_sym, .lbr, .adom-lbr.json, the fpview/symview HTML (none of them reference a 3D model).

Side MPN laser etch (pass 3)

John: laser-etch the MPN on every component we put on the wiki; on LEDs on the side, so it does not ruin the LED window.

  • IN-S63BTA.step carries a flat virtual IN-S63BTA mark (separate part laser_etch, near-black, linear RGB 0.012) on the -Y side face, inside the lens/body band (above the PCB substrate, clear of the seam and of the top window). Text runs along the long axis and reads upright from the -Y side; text height 0.149 mm (service frac 0.8066), sized to fill the band minus 10 % / 18 % margins. Made with adom-aiflow etch_part.py --face side on the adom-chip-laser service; details in provenance/in-s63bta-led-pass.provenance.json (laser_etch) and provenance/IN-S63BTA-etch.report.json.
  • IN-S63BTA-uncoloured.step gets no mark (plain model).
  • IN-S63BTA.glb, IN-S63BTA.insertion.glb and in-s63bta-hero.glb rebuilt from the etched STEP; the mark is its own node Adom.LaserEtch.MPN (a child of the LED node; in the hero it is the finalize.py etch node, toggleable in the viewer).
  • screenshots/hero.png re-rendered at the same angle, which faces the -Y side, so the mark is visible and legible.

GLB animation fix

IN-S63BTA.glb and IN-S63BTA.insertion.glb re-written with their "insert" animation intact: the rebuilds in the earlier passes dropped the animation keyframe accessors, so the insertion animation pointed at geometry data. The keyframes now match the original files exactly (checked on every rebuild since).

Datasheet-true height (pass 4)

Boards use the STEP, so the STEP itself now has the datasheet height: 1.1 mm -> 0.55 mm (IN-S63BT series (2022-03-10) p.1, Figure 2 package dimensions: 0.55 mm overall height (0.19 mm PCB base); the features list rounds it to "0603 0.6mm").

  • IN-S63BTA-uncoloured.step: the originally shipped KiCad model scaled in Z only (factor 0.5, about the seating plane z = 0; names and face colours kept). It is no longer byte-identical to the file this page shipped before; that file is kept as provenance/IN-S63BTA-kicad-original.step.
  • IN-S63BTA.step: coloured again from the height-corrected model, then the side MPN mark re-applied on the scaled model (text 0.149 mm, inside the lens band), so the glyphs are not stretched.
  • IN-S63BTA.glb, IN-S63BTA.insertion.glb, in-s63bta-hero.glb: rebuilt from the corrected STEP with no Z stretch any more (LED node scale 1), insertion keyframes unchanged; the LED_lit glow skin sits 2 um above the lens top.
  • screenshots/hero.png re-rendered.

Open issues seen (not fixed here, other owners)

  • Fixed in pass 4: the STEP height is now the datasheet 0.55 mm.
  • IN-S63BTA.adom-lbr.json pads match the current IN-S63BTA.kicad_mod (0.9 x 1.0 mm).
  • The 0603 land pattern (.kicad_mod: 0.9 x 1.0 mm pads at +-0.8 mm) differs from the datasheet's recommended solder pattern (IN-S63BT p.1, Figure 1: 0.6 x 0.9 mm pads, 0.8 mm gap). Not changed; reported.

IN-S63BTA: footprint, hover and README pass (2026-10-03)

John: footprints follow the manufacturer's land pattern; README.md replaces README.html; the assembly animation moves to a sub-readme.

  • Footprint: redrawn. Land pattern from Inolux IN-S63BT series datasheet V1.2, p.1 (Recommended Solder Pattern). Pads 0.6 x 0.9 mm, centre to centre 1.4 mm, corner radius 0.1 mm.
  • Rebuilt from the footprint: IN-S63BTA-fpview.html (and the lbr-hover bus on both viewers), IN-S63BTA.lbr, IN-S63BTA.adom-lbr.json, the hero GLB, and the pads / solder / silk in IN-S63BTA.insertion.glb.
  • Etched STEP: kept.
  • README.html removed (it repeated the native Symbol & Footprint viewers); README.md rewritten; docs/assembly.md + docs/assembly.html carry the pick-and-place animation; docs/datasheet.md the datasheet pages.
  • New: IN-S63BTA-outline.kicad_sym, artwork/IN-S63BTA-3d-outline-blueprint-named.svg, artwork/IN-S63BTA-3d-outline-dark-named.svg, artwork/IN-S63BTA-3d-outline-ink-heavy-named.svg, artwork/IN-S63BTA-3d-outline-teal-named.svg, artwork/IN-S63BTA-thumbs.json, docs/assembly.html, docs/assembly.md, docs/datasheet.md, footprint-variants/IN-S63BTA-RR25.kicad_mod, footprint-variants/IN-S63BTA-SQ.kicad_mod, footprint-variants/IN-S63BTA.kicad_mod, footprint-variants/IN-S63BTA.variants.json, in-s63bta-hero.overlay.json
  • Removed: README.html

IN-S63BTA: footprint names its 3D model (2026-10-21)

  • IN-S63BTA.kicad_mod now carries a (model "${KIPRJMOD}/IN-S63BTA.step") line, zero offset and rotation: the page's own model_3d_step (page.json). Before, the footprint named no model, so KiCad libraries built from this page (AI Flow project pages, Adom Cloud Library exports) had no 3D body for the part.
  • Nothing else changed: pads, courtyard, silkscreen and every other file are as they were.
