markdownMachine Pin Medium Standard
Adom machine pin (Medium / Standard) for the Adom modular electronics
system. A machine pin (MP) seats in a plated through-hole and mates with a machine
contact (MC) on a stacked board (medium-class 2mm grid). This page carries the corrected KiCad +
Fusion 360 .lbr library and an interactive 3D insertion view.
Mounting: line-to-line in a plated hole
The Ø1.2mm pin body seats in a Ø1.2mm plated hole, so the fit is nominally line-to-line and carries no designed interference. Retention comes from the solder joint on the annular ring (300um jet paste), not from the hole gripping the pin.
This changed in v1.2.0. Through v1.1.0 the hole was Ø1.1mm, giving 0.1mm diametral interference and a solderless press-fit. The drill is now Ø1.20mm, the value the library used before January 2026. At line-to-line nominal, real boards land anywhere between slight interference and slight clearance depending on hole tolerance and plating thickness, so do not rely on the pin holding position before reflow.
Large machine pins are unaffected and remain press-fit (Ø3.6 body in a Ø3.45 hole, 0.15mm interference).
Dimensions (measured from the STEP)
| Feature | Value |
|---|---|
| Pin body OD | Ø1.2 mm |
| Seating flange OD | Ø1.6 mm |
| Tip / lead-in OD | Ø0.51 mm |
| Total height | 10.54 mm (2.8 above board, 7.74 below) |
| Footprint pad | Ø1.6 mm |
| Footprint drill (plated) | Ø1.2 mm |
Grid spacing
Medium-class pins and contacts sit on the 2 mm grid. Pins within a row can be 2 mm apart, but a separate row must be at least 4 mm away to clear the workcell pincers, so the minimum spacing is 2 mm x 4 mm. Every Adom grid is an integer multiple of 2 mm; a medium-class user scaffold typically picks a coarser multiple (8 mm and 4 mm are common).
The 32 mm grid is the large-class convention (the base scaffold's 18x18 array of large machine pin contacts), not this part's. See the Molecule Design white paper, Table 1.
