Thanks Kyle. Looking into this. Two questions that decide where it is:

  1. Did the External Webview render for you on an earlier build, and if so, roughly which? Several WebView2 presentation changes landed on 09-29 (1.0.500 to 1.0.504, the blank-after-fullscreen fixes), and those are the first suspects.
  2. Is K-ZEPHYRUS running Hydrogen on the NVIDIA GPU or the integrated one (NVIDIA Control Panel, or Windows Settings > Display > Graphics)? A native WebView2 that paints solid black on every site, while the rest of the app renders, is also a known hybrid-graphics compositing symptom.

If you can, try one site in an External Webview after switching Hydrogen to the other GPU and tell me whether it paints. I'm reproducing it on another ROG laptop meanwhile.

Good insight. I just moved Hydrogen to my external monitors, and External Webview Renders there. Its only on my actual laptop screen that it doesn't.

Update: on my laptop display, clicking the expand window icon makes the External Webview load. So the black screen might depend on the display or the window size/state, not the website.

Found it, Kyle, and your monitor and maximize observations fit exactly. Fixed in 1.0.515 (insiders).

The External Webview is a native window that floats above the page, so Hydrogen parks it offscreen whenever an overlay covers its pane (a menu, a dialog). It detects "covered" by sampling a grid of points across the pane. With the EDA tools sidebar collapsed, the sidebar's little edge handle sits on the right edge of the rightmost pane, so one sample hit it and the webview stayed parked at -32768,-32768 for good. The page loaded behind it, which is why the tab title was right and the pane was black. On a different monitor or at a different window size the handle did not overlap the pane, so it painted.

The handle now counts as edge chrome, like the pane dividers. Verified on John's laptop, where it reproduced: ti.com renders in the rightmost pane with the sidebar collapsed.
