Widget hover should show the widget bigger, not how it works; move about/refresh to right-click or a help item

Hovering a Title Bar widget gives a card explaining how the widget works. That is the wrong thing to show on hover: hovering is the reflex of someone who wants the number, not the manual.

Environment: Hydrogen 1.0.407, widgets claude-usage and codex-usage from adom/adom-vscode.

What the card shows now

Name and mark, repo, the live URL, brief, about ("Reads the Claude Code sign-in in this workspace and asks Claude's usage endpoint..."), refresh ("asks the provider at most once every 3 minutes; pauses while the window is hidden..."), the port, the log path, and four links.

Every one of those is a fact about the widget. None of them is the reading. The widget is a meter, and the reason to hover a meter is that the compact bar is too small to read at a glance, which is exactly the complaint in the sizing issue filed alongside this one.

What I want instead

Hover shows the widget, bigger. The same live data the slot is rendering, at a size that is comfortable to read, with the room to show what does not fit in 20 px: all the limits with their full labels, the exact percentages, and whatever the compact layout had to drop. In other words, the tall layout the SDK already describes, rendered in the card, rather than prose about the widget.

That is also cheap to specify, because the widget already has two layouts. The card is a bigger box; let the page render its tall layout in it.

The how-it-works moves to an explicit ask. Right-click on the slot, or a ? in the card, or a Help item in the widgets pulldown. about, refresh, the port, the log path and the SDK link are all things a person goes looking for on purpose, once, usually when something is broken. They do not need to be in the way of the reflex path.

Keep pinning as it is: pin the card and the links go live. That part works.

Why this is worth doing beyond these two widgets

The card is host-drawn from manifest fields, so this is one change for every widget anyone ships, present and future. A widget author writes about and refresh once and it lands in the right place instead of the front place. And it makes the compact bar honest: the glance gives you the shape, the hover gives you the number, the right-click gives you the manual.

Queued for later this week together with #79. Direction under discussion with John: keep the host card, make its body the widget rendered large with live data (its tall layout in a bigger frame), and fold about, refresh, port, log and the links behind a how-it-works toggle in the same card. No right-click menu. Pinning stays. Will update here before anything ships.

Related: adom/hydrogen#81. Clicking a widget slot to cycle its views does nothing, and the evidence points at the hover card layer or the drag region eating the click. If the card is the culprit, it lands in the same code as this issue: hovering to read the number and clicking to change the view are the same gesture sequence, so whatever the card becomes has to let the click through to the slot underneath.

Note: #81 turned out to be a bug in the widget page itself (the click's re-render carried the previous poll's view), fixed in adom-vscode 1.1.86. Neither the card layer nor the drag region was eating the click, so this card rework is not blocked by it. Still queued for later this week with #79.

Closing as solved: the hover card shows the widget's own live view, bigger (hdWidget.expand, shipped in 1.0.429), and John confirms the widget issues are resolved. Reopen if anything here comes back.
