Title Bar widgets: compact capsule is 15 px with 7 px of empty space beside it, and the numerals get about 4

The Claude usage and Codex usage widgets are hard to read in the compact Title Bar, and the space to fix it is already there: the capsule is smaller than the gap around it.

Environment: Hydrogen 1.0.407 (1.0.409 insiders staged), widgets claude-usage and codex-usage from adom/adom-vscode, both live. Measured off a window capture at 1400x875, Windows host.

What the pixels say

Scanning the widget strip row by row, counting pixels that differ from the Title Bar background:

y=24..30 7 rows, completely empty <- clear space above the capsule
y=31       capsule top border
y=32..33 2 rows, nearly empty <- internal top padding
y=34..41 content: label, bar, value <- everything lives here
y=36..39 the dense core of the glyphs <- about 4 px
y=42..43 2 rows, nearly empty <- internal bottom padding
y=44..45   capsule bottom border
y=46..52 7 rows, completely empty <- clear space below the capsule

So the capsule is 15 px tall, spends 4 of those on border and internal padding, and leaves the numerals a glyph core of roughly 4 px. Immediately below it sit 7 empty rows before the next row of chrome begins. (The capture had the "Restart to update" banner showing above, so treat the 7 rows above as less certain than the 7 below.)

That is the whole request: there is nearly as much unused vertical space adjacent to the capsule as there is capsule. Taking it would let the numerals roughly double without the Title Bar growing by a pixel.

What I am asking for

  1. Let the slot reach the edges of the compact bar. Drop the vertical padding around the capsule and let the slot have that height. The SDK documents the compact slot as 20 px; what is actually usable after border and padding is about 11.
  2. Then give the value its own step in the type ramp. Right now 5H and 26% look like the same size, so the label is as loud as the number. The number is the payload: it is what a person glances up to read. The label can shrink, or drop to the hover, if that is what buys the room.

I have not assumed which side owns the capsule. If the rounded border and its padding are drawn by the widget page rather than by Hydrogen, say so and I will move the sizing half of this to adom/adom-vscode; the type ramp is the widget's either way.

Related: the hover card request, filed separately, is the other half of making these readable.

Cross-reference: the hover request is adom/hydrogen#80. The two are one complaint split by owner and by fix: this one is about the glance, #80 is about what happens when the glance is not enough.

Queued for later this week, not this weekend's train. The measurement holds: the compact strip is 22 px with a 20 px slot inside a taller bar, so there is room. The plan on the table is to let the compact slot use the strip's full inner height without growing the Title Bar, and to give the value a bigger type step than its label in the widget pages. Will confirm the exact shape with John before building.

Closing as solved: the hover card shows the widget's own live view, bigger (hdWidget.expand, shipped in 1.0.429), and John confirms the widget issues are resolved. Reopen if anything here comes back.
