Dock Bar: group the tiles (EDA tools, browsers, AI tools) with a manifest group field and fixed group order

John, 2026-09-08: "we need groupings in the dock bar cuz we now have eda tools like parts search, kicad, fusion, altium, but we then have a group for ai tools like codex, grok, and we'll eventually have a dashboard for antigravity and claude."

Today the dock is one flat ordered list (fresh install order: parts-search 10, kicad 20, fusion, altium, chip-fetcher, pup, nb, grok, codex 65, lbr, antigravity 70). Proposal:

  1. Each dock app declares a group in its manifest (the wiki app page's dock block): eda (Parts Search, KiCad, Fusion, Altium, Chip Fetcher, LBR), browsers (Pup, Native Browser), ai (Codex, Grok, Antigravity, Claude when its dashboard exists). Apps without a group land in other.
  2. The rail renders group headers (small uppercase label, one hairline) and keeps order inside a group; groups have a fixed order (eda, browsers, ai, other) with a user override in Settings > Dock Bar.
  3. GET /dock/apps returns group per app and groups[] with their order, so adom-cli hydrogen dock list and the AI can reason about them.
  4. Pinned/featured cards keep working; a pinned card shows in its group, not at the top.
  5. Collapsed rail: the group label becomes a thin separator so the icon column still reads as three clusters.

Out of scope for the first cut: drag-to-regroup. Manifest field name and the Settings override are the two decisions to confirm before building.

Shipped in Hydrogen 1.0.284 (insiders): the curated apps.json on adom/hydrogen-bootstrap now declares groups (eda, browsers, ai, other) and a group per app; the rail renders EDA tools (Parts Search, KiCad, Fusion, Altium, Chip Fetcher, Adom LBR), Browsers (Pup, Native Browser), AI tools (Grok, Codex, Antigravity). Settings > Dock Bar > Show the cards in groups (default on; off = the old Featured / All apps list). GET /dock/apps carries group per app and a top-level groups[]. An older manifest without groups still groups by id inference. 1.0.283 shipped the code with the setting never read (flat list); 1.0.284 fixed it. Verified on AdomLapper: rail labels EDA tools, Browsers, AI tools.

Closing. Shipped in 1.0.284: EDA tools, Browsers and AI tools groups on the rail, group per app in the curated list, and a Settings toggle for the flat list.
