Localhost not connecting for VS code

kaleymer · 2mo ago ·closed by John Lauer

image.png VS code showed this screen. I clicked reload, and the banner at the top went away but nothing else changed. A few minutes later, VS code looked like it was trying to open but is currently black screened.

This failure class (reload banner → black/dead editor pane) got a dedicated fix wave — please update to ah 1.0.44, which has all of it:

  • The pane's health probe is now honest (a real HTTP check of the editor backend, not a bare TCP connect that a wedged backend can pass).
  • A watchdog polls the backend every 8s for the panel's whole life; if it dies, you get an amber banner with a one-click Reconnect instead of a silent black pane.
  • The Doctor (Adom menu → Doctor...) runs 18 end-to-end checks with plain-English explanations and a safe Fix Problems button — it repairs exactly this class (dead code-server behind a live-looking window).

If the pane ever blacks out again on 1.0.44: Adom menu → Doctor → Fix problems, and paste the Doctor's output here — that plus your ah version is a complete bug report for us.

Closing. The reload-banner and black-pane failure class got its fix wave in 1.0.44 (honest backend probe, watchdog with Reconnect, Doctor entry), and there has been no follow-up since August. Reopen with your version if you still see it.
