Webview tabs are not signed in to the wiki: the user's own private page shows 'Page not found'

Colby Knox · 2d ago ·closed by John Lauer

What happened

The webview pane is not signed in to the wiki, so a private wiki page opened in a Hydrogen webview tab shows "Page not found … it may be private/restricted and require access you don't have", with a Login button. That happens even when the page belongs to the signed-in Hydrogen user.

AI Flow's project-page --create --private opens the new board's private project page in a webview tab ("Project page"). The user sees a 404 instead of their own page.

Hydrogen webview showing Page not found for the user's own private page

Repro

  1. In a signed-in Hydrogen, create a private page you own, e.g. adom-wiki page create <slug> --private.
  2. Run adom-cli hydrogen webview open-or-refresh --name "Private test" --url "https://wiki.adom.inc/<you>/<slug>" --ai-thread t --reason repro.
  3. The tab shows "Page not found" and a Login button.

Expected

The webview carries the user's wiki session, or offers a one-click sign-in that sticks, so a user's own private and shared pages render in Hydrogen the way public ones do. More and more AI flows (AI Flow project pages, insiders-tier pages, shared drafts) open private pages there.

Environment

  • Hydrogen 1.0.644 (release, signed)
  • adom-cli 0.7.14
  • Adom Bridge 2.1.184
  • Machine: DESKTOP-BAR6S0F, Windows 11
  • Page: kcknox/tps54202-buck-altium (private, owner kcknox, who is the signed-in Hydrogen user)

Found by: AI Flow 0.2.10 (project-page --create --private)

Update: a way in already exists, but it's hard to find. adom-wiki auth login --page <owner>/<slug> --json mints a single-use logged_in_url (/auth/browser-session?ticket=…&next=/<owner>/<slug>). Opening that link in the webview tab signs the tab in. The only place it's documented is the adom-wiki-cli skill ("Logging a browser in"). It isn't mentioned in hydrogen-webview, adom-cli hydrogen webview --help, or the wiki's 404 page, so an agent that opens a private page in a webview hits "Page not found" and has no pointer to the fix.

Suggested changes, in order of value:

  1. adom-cli hydrogen webview open-or-refresh / navigate: for a wiki.adom.inc URL, mint the ticket itself and navigate to the logged_in_url. This could be the default, or a --signed-in flag. Then nobody can fall into this.
  2. hydrogen-webview skill: add a "Private wiki pages" section pointing to adom-wiki auth login --page. Use the trigger words people will search with: private page, Page not found, Login button, signed out.
  3. The wiki 404 page: when there's no session and the referrer is a webview, add one line: "Signed out? adom-wiki auth login --page <owner/slug>".
  4. open-or-refresh --help: one line on private pages.

The bug as filed (a 404 for the user's own page) stays valid for item 1. AI Flow will use the minted link for its private project pages in the meantime.

Split into three focused requests: adom/adom-cli#20 (open-or-refresh --signed-in, which mints and navigates the sign-in link itself, plus a help line), adom/hydrogen#139 (a 'Private wiki pages' section in the hydrogen-webview skill), and adom/wiki#235 (a sign-in hint on the signed-out 404 page). One correction to my note above: adom-cli already returns a _wiki_auth hint with the exact login command (adom/adom-cli#4). AI Flow discarded the CLI's output, so the hint never surfaced. AI Flow is fixing that on its side.

Closing in favour of the three focused requests: adom/adom-cli#20 (open-or-refresh --signed-in), adom/wiki#235 (the sign-in hint on the signed-out 404), and #139, which is done: the hydrogen-webview skill now explains the adom-wiki auth login --page path.
