Texas Instruments · CAN transceiver · SOT-23-8
Physical-layer transceiver between a CAN or CAN FD controller and the bus, running from a single 3.3 V supply in a small SOT-23-8. TXD and RXD face the controller, CANH and CANL the bus, and an S pin selects normal or a low-current standby with bus wakeup. It meets ISO 11898-2 at data rates to 5 Mbps and tolerates the wide bus common-mode and ESD that industrial and automotive wiring demand. A compact 3.3 V CAN FD front end for space-limited boards.
Pinout
| Pin | Name | Type | Function |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | TXD | input | CAN transmit data input from the controller. LOW drives a dominant bus state, HIGH allows recessive. Integrated pull-up to VCC prevents bus dominant if left floating. Driver dominant time-out (TXD DTO) limits stuck-dominant faults. |
| 2 | GND | power_in | Device ground reference. All logic and bus voltages referenced to this terminal. |
| 3 | VCC | power_in | 3.3 V single supply input (recommended range 3.0-3.6 V, absolute max 5 V). Undervoltage protection places the device in a protected state below ~2 V. |
| 4 | RXD | output | CAN receive data output to the controller. LOW indicates dominant bus, HIGH indicates recessive. Tri-state (high-impedance) when device is unpowered or in low-power modes. Includes receiver dominant time-out (RXD DTO). |
| 5 | SHDN | input | Shutdown mode control input for TCAN330. Drive HIGH to enter ultra-low-power shutdown mode (bus and logic pins high-impedance). Internal pull-down keeps the device in normal mode if left open. |
| 6 | CANL | bidirectional | Low-side CAN bus I/O. Together with CANH forms the differential CAN pair. ±14 V bus fault protection and ±12 kV IEC 61000-4-2 contact-discharge ESD protection to GND. |
| 7 | CANH | bidirectional | High-side CAN bus I/O. Together with CANL forms the differential CAN pair. ±14 V bus fault protection and ±12 kV IEC 61000-4-2 contact-discharge ESD protection to GND. |
| 8 | S | input | Silent mode select input for TCAN330. Drive HIGH to disable the transmitter (listen-only silent mode); receiver remains active and mirrors bus traffic on RXD. Integrated pull-down defaults the device to normal mode. |
