A small N-channel logic-level MOSFET in TO-92, the through-hole classic for switching small loads from logic. Its gate threshold is low enough (around 2 V) to turn on from 5 V logic, and it handles 60 V drain-source and about 200 mA, so it drives LEDs, relays, small solenoids, and gate signals, or level-shifts a line. It is the through-hole cousin of the surface-mount 2N7002 and BSS138. The TO-92 leads are S, G, D (pin 1 = source).
