LM7805

The LM7805 is the quintessential 5V linear voltage regulator, in continuous production since 1972. With just three pins (Input, Ground, Output), it provides a fixed 5V output at up to 1.5A with built-in thermal overload and short-circuit protection. Its simplicity makes it the first voltage regulator many engineers learn. While switching regulators are more efficient, the LM7805 excels in low-noise applications and remains ubiquitous in hobby projects, lab power supplies, and legacy designs.
