The 74HC595 is an 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register with output latches and 3-state outputs. Expands GPIO by 8 per chip with just 3 control pins. Daisy-chainable. For LED matrices, 7-segment displays, and relay banks. DIP-16 / SOIC-16.
