TL331LV

Comparator · package Package_TO_SOT_SMD:SOT-23-5_HandSoldering · MPN TL331LV · Texas Instruments

Used on the USB3 to Ethernet (Data Only) Molecule board as 1x (U2), driving the HD3SS3212 USB-C orientation mux.

Ships the KiCad symbol, footprint, STEP + GLB 3D model, and the canonical adom-lbr JSON (one-command conversion to KiCad, native Altium, or EAGLE/Fusion).

⚠️ Reversed input pinout

The TL331LV deliberately reverses its inputs relative to the common SOT-23-5 comparator pinout. TI flags this on the datasheet pin diagram: "Note reversed inputs compared to similar common pinout."

Pin TL331LV LMV331 (common pinout)
1 IN− IN+
2 GND GND
3 IN+ IN−
4 OUT OUT
5 V_CC V_CC

Only the inputs differ: GND, OUT and V_CC are identical. That makes the two parts mechanically interchangeable drop-ins whose comparator polarity is opposite, so an unintended substitution silently inverts the decision and still passes AOI.

Used deliberately here: fitting the TL331LV in an LMV331 footprint inverts the CC1/CC2 orientation decision with zero layout change, which is how the molecule's USB-C orientation detection was corrected.

Pinout as shipped

2 V- power_in
3 IN+ input
4 OUT output
