Steven's Nameplate: three revisions
Public Made by Adomby adom
A USB-C desk nameplate for Steven Moss (Astera Institute), built three ways and published as open experiments: a 3x5 LED board, a 5x7 LED board, and a laser-ablated silkscreen plate. Source, fab files, negative results, reproduce steps.

Plan: Steven's nameplate
Requests, verbatim, in order (John Lauer)
2026-09-11, Rev 1:
hey, we want to put Steven's name in lights on a pcb nameplate. put a usbc connector on the right side of the board so he can plug it into his iphone. use adom-tsci and open it in the webview when done.
2026-09-23, Rev 2 and Rev 3:
honestly, do a new one and keep the old one so steven can see the progression of ideas of his board cuz they're all about running experiments and seeing evidence of each experiment
can you make teh N for steven look more like an N? ... perhaps the way to do this is to make a 2nd board that just takes adonis's latest board in fusion that he's actually using for the nameplates he made ... and put that on the same wiki page for steven as a 2nd example of a board that doesn't use the led lights for the letters but instead it just does a solder mask silkscreen ablation
so really, for steven, i want 3 boards. the orig you had when we started this session, the new one where you made the led font bigger, and then the silkscreen one similar to what we're showign off in DC tomorrow night
it might make sense for steven's wiki page to have a summary readme of the 3 revs of the board, and then a sub-readme for the massive details of each board cuz i want those sub-readmes as comprehensive as you can get so that they follow astera's standards like being open source, all the provenance, a whole section on how to reproduce the experiment, etc.
Decisions
- Names spelled as in the people's own email signatures: Steven Moss, Ellaine Chou.
- Licenses follow Astera's policy: MIT for code, CC0 for data, CC BY 4.0 for text. The Rev 3 Fusion files stay under their author's terms until he declares a license.
- Funder recorded as NSF with its ROR ID. Astera is named as the audience, not a funder.
- Gaps against Astera's policy (DOI, Zenodo, GitHub mirror) are stated, not hidden.
Out of scope
- Fabricating Rev 1 or Rev 2.
- A DOI or Zenodo deposit (the pipeline Adom proposes to build with Astera).
