pads.json footprint: the shipped SOIC-8 has no thermal pad, but the symbol and the datasheet both show 9 pads. datasheet EP 2.15x2.15mm; matches the land already resolved for sibling rt8289gsp from its own datasheet. Chosen from this part's OWN datasheet, not inferred from a sibling - the Richtek SOP-8-EP parts alone carry three different exposed-pad sizes, so family inference would have been wrong. rt8279gsp.lbr rebuild the library on adom-lbr 2.32.0. The published copy was built by 2.18.0, which imported every KiCad roundrect and oval pad as a SQUARE EAGLE smd; this carries the real pad shape across (0 -> 8 rounded pads) and stops dropping geometry drawn on KiCad User.N layers. Attributes, connects, pads and the pin-1 marker are gated against decreasing and are unchanged. · Ray 1mo ago

RT8279GSP

Richtek Tech · DC-DC Converters · SOP-8-EP-150mil

RT8279GSP from Richtek Tech, in a SOP-8-EP-150mil. Pinout and pin descriptions extracted from the manufacturer datasheet by ds2sf; symbol, footprint, and 3D from KiCad-official CAD.

Pinout

Pin Name Type Function
1 BOOT power_in High Side Gate Drive Boost Input. Supplies drive for the high-side N-MOSFET switch. Connect a 10nF (or greater) capacitor from SW to BOOT to power the high side switch. Absolute max (VSW-0.3V) to (VSW+6V).
2 NC unconnected No Internal Connection.
3 NC unconnected No Internal Connection.
4 FB input Feedback Input. Connect to a resistor divider from VOUT to set the output voltage. Feedback threshold is 1.222V (typ, VREF).
5 EN input Enable Input. Digital input that turns the regulator on/off. VIH > 1.4V turns the regulator on; VIL < 0.4V turns it off. Leave floating for automatic startup (has ~1µA internal pull-up). Absolute max 6V.
6 GND power_in Ground. Pins 6 and 9 (exposed pad) are the device ground. The exposed pad must be soldered to a large PCB copper area connected to GND for maximum power dissipation.
7 VIN power_in Power Input, 5.5V to 36V operating range (absolute max 40V). Bypass with a suitable large capacitor from VIN to GND to eliminate input noise.
8 SW power_out Power Switching Output. Connect to the inductor and to the BOOT bootstrap capacitor (a capacitor from SW to BOOT is required to power the high side switch). Absolute max -0.3V to VIN+0.3V.
9 GND power_in Exposed thermal pad. Electrically connected to GND (pin 6). Must be soldered to a large PCB copper area for thermal dissipation.

CAD (KiCad official)

  • Symbol: RT8279GSP
  • Footprint: Package_SO:SOIC-8_3.9x4.9mm_P1.27mm
  • 3D model: SOP-8-EP-150mil (KiCad packages3D, STEP)
  • 3D model files: rt8279gsp-etched.step / rt8279gsp-etched.glb carry the MPN laser-etched on the die in a toggleable Adom.LaserEtch group (Fusion-ready); rt8279gsp.step / rt8279gsp.glb are the bare package body.

3D model downloads

Two STEP files. Same geometry, different body top:

File Size Use it when
rt8279gsp.step 125 KB You want the bare part, or you mark your own boards.
rt8279gsp-etched.step 2.2 MB You want the part with RT8279GSP already on it.

The marking in the etched file is real recessed geometry cut into the solid, not a texture or a decal: 532 faces against 152 in the bare model. It survives export, section views, and rendering in any CAD tool, and it drops straight into KiCad or Fusion with no extra setup.

Provenance

Data extracted from the manufacturer datasheet, not a distributor listing:
