PAM8302

Diodes Incorporated · Class-D audio amplifier · MSOP-8

Drives a small speaker directly from a single 2.0 to 5.5 V supply, delivering up to 2.5 W into a 4 ohm load at class-D efficiency near 90%. The filterless bridge-tied output connects straight to the speaker without an LC filter, saving parts, and a shutdown pin (SD) mutes the amplifier at near-zero current. Differential inputs and resistor-set gain suit it to phone, toy, and IoT audio. A cheap, standard mono speaker amp.

Pinout

Pin Name Type Function
1 SD input Active-low shutdown input. Drive low (VSL ≤ 0.4 V) to place the amplifier in shutdown (ISHDN ≤ 1 µA); drive high (VSH ≥ 1.2 V) for normal operation. Recommended to delay assertion ~10 ms after VDD rises for best pop performance.
2 NC unconnected No internal connection. Leave floating or tie to ground per PCB layout preference.
3 IN+ input Non-inverting analog audio input to the differential input amplifier. AC-couple through an input capacitor (typ. 0.1 µF) forming a high-pass filter with the internal 10 kΩ input impedance (RI). Closed-loop differential gain is 20·log(150 kΩ / (10 kΩ + RIN_ext)), max ≈ 23.5 dB.
4 IN- input Inverting analog audio input to the differential input amplifier. AC-couple through an input capacitor (typ. 0.1 µF); internal RI = 10 kΩ, RF = 150 kΩ set the gain. Tie to ground through a coupling cap for single-ended input drive.
5 VO+ output Positive Class-D PWM speaker output (H-bridge side +). Drives one terminal of the bridge-tied-load speaker (4 Ω or 8 Ω typical). Delivers up to 2.5 W into 4 Ω at VDD = 5 V, THD+N = 10%. A ferrite bead + 220 pF RC filter to ground is recommended for EMI reduction on long speaker leads.
6 VDD power_in Positive supply input, 2.0 V to 5.5 V. Decouple locally with a low-ESR 1.0 µF ceramic close to the pin and a 10 µF bulk capacitor. UVLO trips at ≈ 2.1 V.
7 GND power_in Device ground return for supply, input bias, and output stages. Connect to a low-impedance ground plane.
8 VO- output Negative Class-D PWM speaker output (H-bridge side −). Drives the second terminal of the bridge-tied-load speaker. A ferrite bead + 220 pF RC filter to ground is recommended for EMI reduction on long speaker leads.
