Hover tooltip renders over the popover it duplicates

Ray · 1mo ago ·closed by John Lauer

What happens

Hovering a shot's thumbnail shows a tooltip with the prompt/context that produced the capture. Opening the popover for that same shot puts the popover underneath the tooltip, so the thing you deliberately opened is covered by the thing that appeared on its own.

Ray hit this reading a hero-image capture: the tooltip ("that chip is upside down in the latest, you should rotate the chip first so the pin 1 is in the upper left...") sat on top of the popover he was trying to read, and there was no way to dismiss it without moving the pointer off the shot, which also closes the popover.

Why it matters

The tooltip and the popover carry the same class of information (why this capture exists, what the AI was doing). The tooltip is the incidental one; the popover is the one the human asked for. Right now the incidental one wins.

Suggested fix

Suppress the hover tooltip while a popover is open for that shot, or have the popover subsume the tooltip's content so there is only ever one surface showing that text.

Partially closing: 0.28.2 already guards this, and the code comment quotes Ray's exact words.

src/html/index.html:924

// A card whose info overlay is REVEALED (compact mode ⓘ) is being read:
// no tooltip may float over it (Ray: "the tooltip obscures the popover").
if (el.closest && el.closest('.shot-card')?.querySelector('.card-info.show')) return;

So the case is known and handled. What the guard does NOT cover is any other deliberately-opened surface: it only fires when the hovered element is inside a .shot-card whose own .card-info is open. A .hover-popover.show elsewhere on the page, or an overlay on a different card, still gets covered by the 600ms tooltip.

Leaving this open ONLY if that broader case is worth guarding; happy for it to be closed as working-as-intended if the compact-ⓘ case was the whole complaint. I no longer have a reproduction on 0.28.2 to prove the gap, so I would rather not assert it.

My mistake for filing without checking the shipped source first.

Closing in 0.28.3 (adom-wiki pkg update adom/adom-shotlog), with your PR #4 applied.

The guard is now global as well as card-scoped: no automatic tooltip shows while any .card-info.show or .hover-popover.show is up anywhere on the page. Verified in pup: open the brand hover card, hover a header button for 900ms, the tooltip stays hidden; close the card, hover again, the tooltip shows.

Thanks for tracing it to the card-scoped check rather than filing a second repro.
