UA7805

Texas Instruments · Fixed 5 V linear regulator (78xx) · TO-220

Fixed 5 V positive linear voltage regulator in a 3-terminal TO-220 package, the 7805 that has powered hobby and industrial boards for decades. Give it an unregulated input from about 7 V up to 35 V and it holds the output at 5 V while sourcing up to 1.5 A, with internal current limiting, safe-operating-area protection, and thermal shutdown so a short or overheat cannot destroy it. It needs roughly 2 V of headroom (dropout), so it is not an LDO. Add a small input and output capacitor and it is a complete supply.
