TIP127

STMicroelectronics · Bipolar Transistor (BJT) · TO-220

The TIP127 is a PNP Darlington power transistor rated for -100 V and 5 A continuous collector current. Its Darlington pair gives high current gain, so a small base drive from an MCU or logic pin switches large loads. It comes in a TO-220 package with integrated base-emitter resistors, part of the TIP120-127 complementary series.

Pinout

Pin Name Type Function
1 B input Base of the PNP Darlington pair. Drive with negative base current (IB max 0.12 A) referenced to the emitter; VBE(on) typ 2.5 V at IC = 3 A. Internal 16 kΩ base-emitter resistor (R1) is present.
2 C passive Collector of the PNP Darlington and electrically common with the TO-220 metal TAB. VCBO / VCEO absolute max = 100 V, IC = 5 A continuous, ICM = 8 A peak. TAB is typically bolted to the heatsink and must be isolated if the heatsink is not at collector potential.
3 E passive Emitter of the PNP Darlington pair, the current-return terminal. For PNP operation this pin is the positive supply reference relative to the collector; all voltage/current values are negative per the datasheet note.
