L7905

STMicroelectronics · Linear Regulator (LDO) · TO-220

The L7905 is a three-terminal fixed negative-voltage regulator from ST's L79xx series, delivering a stable -5 V output at up to 1.5 A with adequate heat sinking. It pairs with a positive 78xx regulator to build split (dual-rail) supplies for op-amps and analog circuits, and needs only input and output capacitors.

Pinout

Pin Name Type Function
1 GND power_in Common / reference ground for both input and output. The output voltage is regulated with respect to this pin.
2 IN power_in Unregulated negative supply input. Accepts DC input voltage down to -35 V (abs. max). A 2.2 µF input capacitor (CI) to GND is recommended to reject line transients. In the TO-220 / TO-220FP / D²PAK packages the mounting tab is internally connected to this pin.
3 OUT power_out Regulated negative output. Delivers a fixed -5 V (typ.) with respect to GND at up to 1.5 A when adequately heat-sunk. A 1 µF output capacitor (CO) to GND is required for stability.
