Texas Instruments · Brushed DC motor driver · HTSSOP-8 (PowerPAD)
Single H-bridge driver for one brushed DC motor from a 6.5 to 45 V supply, delivering up to 3.6 A peak. Two logic inputs (IN1, IN2) set forward, reverse, brake, and coast directly, and the internal current regulation trips at a level set by one resistor at ILIM, so the driver limits inrush and stall current without a sense resistor in the motor path. Built-in undervoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature protection shut the bridge down and recover automatically. The PowerPAD carries heat into the board copper.
Pinout
| Pin | Name | Type | Function |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | GND | power_in | Logic ground. Connect to board ground. |
| 2 | IN2 | input | Logic input 2. Together with IN1 controls the H-bridge outputs (forward/reverse/brake/coast) and PWM speed. Has an internal ~100 kΩ pulldown to GND; input logic threshold VIL=0.5 V max, VIH=1.5 V min, 5.5 V max. |
| 3 | IN1 | input | Logic input 1. Together with IN2 controls the H-bridge outputs and PWM speed. Has an internal ~100 kΩ pulldown to GND; input logic threshold VIL=0.5 V max, VIH=1.5 V min, 5.5 V max. |
| 4 | ILIM | input | Current-limit control. Connect a resistor from ILIM to GND to set the internal current-chopping threshold using ITRIP = VILIM / (RILIM × AV), where VILIM ≈ 64 kV constant. |
| 5 | VM | power_in | 6.5-V to 45-V motor power supply. Connect a 0.1-µF bypass capacitor to ground plus sufficient bulk capacitance rated for VM. UVLO trips at ~6.1-6.4 V falling. |
| 6 | OUT1 | output | H-bridge output 1. Connect directly to one motor terminal or other inductive load. Drives up to 3.6 A peak; RDS(on) ≈ 565 mΩ (HS+LS typ). |
| 7 | PGND | power_in | High-current (power) ground path for the low-side FET sources. Connect to board ground. |
| 8 | OUT2 | output | H-bridge output 2. Connect directly to the other motor terminal or inductive load. Drives up to 3.6 A peak. |
| PAD | PAD | passive | Exposed thermal pad on the underside. Connect to board ground and use large copper pours and multiple thermal vias on multiple layers for heat dissipation. |
