Texas Instruments · Brushed DC motor driver · WSON-8
Single H-bridge driver for one brushed DC motor from a 4.5 to 33 V supply, delivering up to 3.7 A peak. Two logic inputs set forward, reverse, brake, and coast, and an integrated current-sense output (IPROPI) mirrors the motor current as a small analog signal a host can read without a shunt in the motor path. An adjustable current-limit trip and built-in undervoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature protection round it out. The tiny WSON suits compact motor and actuator drives.
Pinout
| Pin | Name | Type | Function |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | IPROPI | output | Analog current output proportional to load current (current mirror, 1500 µA/A scaling factor). Connect an external resistor (RIPROPI) to GND to convert to a voltage for sensing/regulation with VREF. Max 3 mA, max voltage 5.75 V. |
| 2 | IN2 | input | Logic input controlling H-bridge output OUT2. Has internal pulldown (100 kΩ to GND). Compatible with 1.8-V/3.3-V/5-V logic; VIH ≥ 1.5 V, VIL ≤ 0.5 V. Supports PWM up to 200 kHz. |
| 3 | IN1 | input | Logic input controlling H-bridge output OUT1. Has internal pulldown (100 kΩ to GND). Compatible with 1.8-V/3.3-V/5-V logic; VIH ≥ 1.5 V, VIL ≤ 0.5 V. Supports PWM up to 200 kHz. |
| 4 | VREF | input | Analog reference voltage input (0 to 5 V, max 6 V) setting the current-regulation trip threshold together with RIPROPI. Absorbs the need for MCU intervention during start-up/stall. |
| 5 | VM | power_in | Motor power supply, 4.5 V to 33 V (abs max 35 V). Bypass with a 0.1-µF ceramic to GND plus sufficient bulk capacitance rated for VM. |
| 6 | OUT1 | output | H-bridge output 1. Connect directly to one motor terminal or other inductive load. Peak current 3.7 A; RDS(on) high-side + low-side ≈ 600 mΩ at 24 V. |
| 7 | GND | power_in | Device power ground. Connect to system ground plane; tie to thermal pad for good return and thermal dissipation. |
| 8 | OUT2 | output | H-bridge output 2. Connect directly to the other motor terminal or other inductive load. Peak current 3.7 A; body-diode forward voltage ≈ 0.8 V at 1 A. |
| 9 | PAD | passive | Exposed thermal pad. Connect to board ground and use large ground planes on multiple layers with multiple nearby vias for effective heat dissipation. |
