ADM2582

Analog Devices · Isolated RS-485 · SOIC-20W

Full RS-485/RS-422 node on one chip with the galvanic isolation and the isolated supply both built in. The signal path (D, R, with DE and RE enables) crosses ADI's iCoupler barrier, and an integrated isoPower DC-DC converter generates the isolated-side supply from the logic-side rail, so no separate isolated power module is needed. It gives 5 kVrms of isolation, runs up to 16 Mbps, and protects the bus against faults. A complete isolated RS-485 interface for industrial networks that must break ground loops.

Pinout

Pin Name Type Function
GND1 power_in Ground, logic side. Reference for the logic-side VCC supply and all logic-side signals (RxD, TxD, DE, RE).
VCC power_in Logic side power supply, 3.0 V to 5.5 V. A 0.1 µF and a 0.01 µF decoupling capacitor should be fitted between Pin 2 and Pin 1.
GND1 power_in Ground, logic side.
RxD output Receiver output data. Output is high when (A − B) ≥ −30 mV and low when (A − B) ≤ −200 mV. Tristated when the receiver is disabled (RE driven high).
RE input Receiver enable input, active low. Driving this input low enables the receiver; driving it high disables the receiver (RxD tristated).
DE input Driver enable input, active high. Driving this input high enables the differential driver; driving it low disables the driver (Y, Z high impedance).
TxD input Driver input. Data to be transmitted by the driver is applied to this input.
VCC power_in Logic side power supply, 3.0 V to 5.5 V. A 0.1 µF and a 10 µF decoupling capacitor should be fitted between Pin 8 and Pin 9.
GND1 power_in Ground, logic side.
GND1 power_in Ground, logic side.
GND2 power_in Ground for isolated dc-to-dc converter, bus side. Connect Pin 11 and Pin 14 together through one ferrite bead to PCB ground.
VISOOUT power_out Isolated power supply output, typically 3.3 V. Must be connected externally to VISOIN (Pin 19). A 10 µF reservoir capacitor and a 0.1 µF decoupling capacitor should be fitted between Pin 12 and Pin 11.
Y output Driver noninverting differential output to the RS-485/RS-422 bus.
GND2 power_in Ground for isolated dc-to-dc converter, bus side. Connect Pin 11 and Pin 14 together through one ferrite bead to PCB ground.
Z output Driver inverting differential output to the RS-485/RS-422 bus.
GND2 power_in Ground, bus side. Do not connect this pin to Pin 14 and Pin 11 (isolated dc-to-dc converter ground).
B input Receiver inverting differential input from the RS-485/RS-422 bus.
A input Receiver noninverting differential input from the RS-485/RS-422 bus.
VISOIN power_in Isolated power supply input to the transceiver. Must be connected externally to VISOOUT (Pin 12) through a ferrite bead and short trace length. A 0.1 µF and a 0.01 µF decoupling capacitor should be fitted between Pin 19 and Pin 20.
GND2 power_in Ground, bus side.
