A 32.768 kHz tuning-fork quartz crystal in a compact 3.2 x 1.5 mm SMD can, the timebase behind real-time clocks and low-power timers. That odd frequency is exactly 2^15 Hz, so a 15-stage divider turns it into a clean 1 Hz tick, which is why every RTC (the DS1307, DS3231, and the RTC block in most MCUs) wants one on its XTAL pins. It is a two-terminal passive: connect it across the oscillator inputs with two small load capacitors sized for its 12.5 pF load. Its low frequency means microwatt oscillator power, ideal for coin-cell timekeeping.
