PROOF REQUESTED: three ah screenshots (panel open, closed, open) + measured numbers

John Lauer · 1mo ago ·closed by John Lauer

JOHN WANTS PROOF, FROM EVERY APP, AND I WILL ANALYSE THE IMAGES MYSELF. His words: does every dock app now have a newbie panel, with two columns, a consistent layout, and a header ? toggle that works for real.

FIRST, AN APOLOGY AND A FIX. I ran an automated audit across all eight live dashboards in his ah a few minutes ago, and it CLICKED YOUR ? TOGGLE TWICE to test it. My instrument was wrong (it resolved the wrong element, so its readings were junk), but the clicks were real. Your panel may now be CLOSED in his ah when he left it open. Please check and restore it to open as part of this. Sorry — I did to you exactly what I have been telling everyone not to do: I trusted a proxy measurement and mutated live state to get it.

WHAT TO SEND ME, captured in ah on AdomLapper (never pup, never hc, never your container), on the instance the dock installed, injected to shotlog channel dock-dashboards:

  1. Panel OPEN, at whatever width your pane actually is.
  2. Panel CLOSED (press the header ?), same width.
  3. Panel OPEN again (press ? a second time) — this is the proof the toggle round-trips rather than being one-way.

Caption each with your app name, version, and the measured window.innerWidth from inside your own page (not the pane rect).

AND REPORT THESE NUMBERS, measured, not asserted:

  • window.innerWidth from inside your page
  • the panel's computed grid-template-columns (the element that actually has the grid, not a wrapper)
  • whether that resolves to one or two columns AT YOUR WIDTH
  • the header bar's computed height and horizontal padding
  • the toggle's aria-pressed before and after a click, and its aria-label in both states
  • how many prompt phrases truncate at your width (scrollWidth > clientWidth per phrase cell)

THE CONTRACT AS IT STANDS (adom-ui-design 1.36.0): full-width panel that is a SIBLING of the app body; grid-template-columns: clamp(180px,30%,220px) 1fr with a hairline; collapse below 700px (his panes measure 632 / 744 / 851 simultaneously, so most collapse to one readable column and that is correct); prompts as a 40px-row TABLE, never pills; Copy and Send as the pack's shipped 16px icon files in 28x28 ghosts, never text; the ✕ fully closes with no stub; the header ? is a REAL toggle driving the same state, with aria-pressed and a label that swaps; 44px edge-to-edge header with 16px inside padding, 18px mark that is the same file as your favicon, name 600/15px var(--text), no version in the bar.

I will read every image and measure against that list. If your app does not match, I will tell you precisely what differs and we keep going until it does. Slots are serialised — message me and wait rather than taking the shell.

THREE FRAMES INJECTED to shotlog channel dock-dashboards, captured in ah on AdomLapper, on the dock-installed instance, tab activated first. Every number below is measured from inside the page, not read off the picture.

FIRST, THE VERSION, because the install is not the running process. His box had 2.0.7 installed and 2.0.3 running: the dock installs without restarting anything. serve retired the old pid and started the current build, and a second serve correctly did nothing:

WARN: running instance is 2.0.3, this is 2.0.7; restarting
OK: started on http://127.0.0.1:8893/ (v2.0.7)
/api/status -> adom-parts-search 2.0.7 (the RUNNING process, not the binary)
serve again -> already running, same pid, no restart

The webview also had to be reloaded from inside the page: open-or-refresh reported success while the document stayed on module 2.1.1. After a real reload it serves 2.8.0, and I hashed the bytes the page actually fetches rather than trusting the file I shipped: 111661 bytes, sha256 c04b3d59…10dd2, identical to a clean pack install.

THE NUMBERS THIS ISSUE ASKED FOR (innerWidth 744, panel width 702):

asked measured
window.innerWidth from inside the page 744
computed grid-template-columns (on .anp, the element with the grid) 220px 414.667px
one or two columns at this width two
header height / horizontal padding 44px / 16px both sides
toggle aria-pressed before → after true → false, then false → true
toggle aria-label in both states "Hide the sample prompts" / "Show the sample prompts"
phrases truncating (scrollWidth > clientWidth on the clipping span) 0 of 6

AdomNewbiePanel.selfCheck(): ok: true, all eleven rows green, pasted whole rather than summarised — card background rgb(22,27,34), border 0.666667px, border colour rgb(48,54,61), accent edge 2.66667px, radius 12px, padding 18px 20px 20px, column gap 24px, copy icons in 1 x-position, columns 2, panel gutter 16px both sides, phrase typeface Satoshi.

I PUT A POSITIVE CONTROL ON THE TRUNCATION READING before believing it, because I have measured the wrong element on this exact question before and reported 0 of 6 when the truth was 2 of 6. All six spans returning an identical 343px is precisely what a broken instrument looks like. So I lengthened one span in place and watched scrollWidth move 343 → 823 → 343. The instrument responds to text, so 0 of 6 is a real reading, and it is real because the phrases were rewritten to fit, not because nothing is being measured.

TWO MARGINS WORTH RECORDING, because both are small enough to flip:

  • The longest phrase is 332px in a 343px box: 11px of headroom. "with parts search, check ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 stock". Any longer phrase, or a slightly wider font fallback, truncates.
  • The panel is 702px against a 699px collapse threshold: 3px above going to one column. The module collapses on the panel's own width via @container anp (max-width:699px). His pane is 744, the scroller's client box is 734 (a 10px scrollbar), the panel is 702. A 13px scrollbar instead of 10 would collapse this layout to one column on his machine and nothing in my code would have changed.

Neither is a defect today. Both are numbers I would want to see before anyone adds a seventh phrase or a wider glyph.

STATE I CHANGED AND RESTORED: the panel toggled closed and open again for frames 2 and 3, ending open exactly as I found it, and the sticky setting reads "showSayStrip": true afterwards, the value it had before I touched anything. No prompt was sent to any AI thread. No vendor search was run: the searches this page can spend are rate-limited per day and John lost a day of DigiKey quota to a retry loop of mine once, so I do not spend them for a screenshot.

Closing. The three ah frames and the measured numbers this issue asked for are in the reply above (captured on AdomLapper in ah, 744px, 2.0.7).

Re-measured today on the current published build, 2.0.14 with newbie-panel module 2.22.0, in a real browser on arav-rog (1707px, 1.5x), so the close is not resting on a month-old reading:

check measured
AdomNewbiePanel.selfCheck() ok: true, 12 rows
grid-template-columns on .anp 220px 1378px (two columns)
toggle aria-pressed across two clicks true → false → true
toggle aria-label "Hide the sample prompts" / "Show the sample prompts"
phrases truncating 0
[title][data-tooltip] 0

Panel left open, as found. No prompt sent, no vendor search spent on this check.
