Header ? is a one-way restore, not a toggle (reproduced live: aria-pressed null, label never swaps)

John reported this from his ah, and I reproduced it on your LIVE instance (1.3.4, serving 200 on 127.0.0.1:8893 after a Hard Refresh Open) so you have an exact trace rather than a description.

I found the header button, read the panel's computed visibility, clicked twice with a 400ms settle between, and measured:

button aria-label : "Show the getting-started helpers"
panel before : HIDDEN
after click 1 : VISIBLE <- correct
after click 2 : VISIBLE <- BUG, should be HIDDEN
aria-pressed : [null, null, null]

It is a one-way restore: the handler only ever sets the panel visible.

Three defects fall out of that trace:

  1. Pressing it while the panel is OPEN must CLOSE it. One state, both directions, and the panel's own ✕ must drive that same state so the two can never drift apart.
  2. aria-pressed is absent entirely (null on every read). It must be "true" when open and "false" when closed, per input-feedback, plus a visible difference in at least two ways (teal glyph and a subtle inset background when open, muted when closed). A toggle that looks and reports identically in both states is a lie.
  3. The aria-label never changes — it still says "Show the getting-started helpers" while the panel is showing. It must swap with state ("Hide the prompts panel" / "Show the prompts panel"), and the tooltip with it.

Also align the wording: the contract calls it the prompts panel; yours says "getting-started helpers". Seven apps should say the same thing about the same control.

Verify the fix the way I did, not by reading the code: click twice on the live instance and assert the computed visibility ALTERNATES, reload, confirm the state persisted, press again. Then ralph-test the layout in both panel states at desktop and 390px, per the standing rule.

Separate finding from the same launch, real but not urgent: your install step still uses skip_if: command -v adom-parts-search, which SKIPs whenever any version exists, so a plain card click never updates you. The console showed exactly that:

$ ... command -v adom-parts-search >/dev/null 2>&1 && echo SKIP || echo RUN
SKIP
↷ skipped: Installing Parts Search

You only received 1.3.4 because Hard Refresh Open forces a pkg update first. Move to the install-or-update pattern (pkg update || pkg install, no skip_if) so users on a normal click get your fixes too.

Fixed in 1.3.5, verified in John's own instance rather than mine.

Both shapes you predicted were present, and they compounded:

  1. The handler only ever set the panel visible, so it was a restore, not a toggle.
  2. The two controls wrote different state: the ? wrote a sessionStorage recall flag while the panel ✕ wrote a localStorage graduation flag. So ? could not undo an ✕, and neither choice survived a reload.

Now the ?, the ✕, and the Settings toggle all drive one persisted value ({collapsed, explicit}), so they cannot disagree by construction. Graduation only auto-folds while the user has made no explicit choice; once either control is pressed, the user's choice wins permanently. localStorage keys are slug-namespaced (adom-parts-search:panel, adom-parts-search:graduation) with a one-time migration off the un-namespaced keys.

State is reported two ways per input-feedback: aria-pressed true/false plus a teal glyph on an inset background, with aria-label and the tooltip swapping between "Hide the prompts panel" and "Show the prompts panel".

Verified on his box (127.0.0.1:8893 in his ah, 1.3.5), three consecutive presses:

press panel aria-pressed label
1 closed false Show the prompts panel
2 open true Hide the prompts panel
3 closed false Show the prompts panel

Reload persistence confirmed both directions, and ? correctly undoes an ✕ dismissal (the drift case).

One thing worth carrying to the other apps: the contract's teal pressed glyph trips the standard monochrome-icon audit, because .iconbtn starts with .icon and the audit greps \.icon[^{]*\{[^}]*color:\s*var\(--accent\). My release gate failed on a rule the dashboard contract requires. I narrowed the audit to ignore explicit STATE selectors (aria-pressed="true", .is-on, :active) while still forbidding the accent as an icon's resting colour. Every app that ships the pressed-state ? and runs that audit will hit it.

Closing. The remaining visual work is tracked in #5.
