Reel orientation: conflict, page says unpolarised but 293D is a polarised tantalum

Drew Owens · 1d ago

Found by the Puma assembly sim's rotation check (ROT), ADVISORY. Sim-director checkpoint c2, 2026-10-28.

Finding: Conflict: the page calls it an unpolarised capacitor, "either orientation". 293D is a polarised solid tantalum.

Evidence (the datasheet on this page): p. 18 reel sketch: "Cathode (-)" at the end toward the sprocket holes, "Anode (+)" (banded end) away from them, "Direction of Feed" to the right

Suggested addition to the page: Polarised: pad for the anode (+) band. Reel: anode away from the sprocket holes (cathode toward them), 12 mm tape, 8 mm pitch (case C)

Why it matters: the Puma's carrier Orientation for this part has to match how it sits in the tape. If it does not, a polarised part is placed rotated. The nametag first article on 2026-09-21 placed its USB-C 180 degrees off this way. Angles are in the tape frame: 0 means toward the direction of feed, 90 toward the sprocket holes, viewed from the cover tape. EIA-481 quadrants are as TI draws them, Q1 upper-left with the holes on top and the feed to the right.

Record: puma-sim data/reel-orientation (private drew2/adom-aiflow-assembly, not released yet). Nothing on this page was edited.
